Co-operate May 11, 2006

Read today at the Guardian that Google Co-Op has been launched, where users can contribute your expertise and benefit when others do the same.  If you are an expert on something you can create links for others to subscribe to and label useful webpages.  I had a look into contributing and it's not as easy as I would like it to be.  However, one of the first topics is health, my subject at work, so I've been playing around with interest.

Although it has a US bias you can straight to links for treatment, causes, support groups and research.  Great for quick enquiries and finding just what you want.  I like that they include research information, even if it does say 'for doctors'.

Another new health site that came out this week is Best Treatments from the BMJ.  It's UK based and has loads of information about different health conditions based on the latest evidence-based research.  I'm recommending it at work.
I may investigate contributing another time but if you are confident with Excel and/or XML you can get started.

I've had this article sitting around for over a month, but Phil Bradley posted about the Web 2.0 Awards.  Web 2.0 seems to be everywhere with everyone claiming they have a brilliant new application -it's hard to keep up!

Having a look through the winners and honourable mentions gives you an idea of what's out there, although you could be on this site all day!

What applications do I use?  I'd be lost without Bloglines, my personal blog is signed up with Technorati (time to get this one up too), Flickr to organise my photos, del.icio.us for keeping track of all the good things on the web, Blink for keeping track of business sites on the web, I keep up to date with news affecting my work with a personalised Google page

(My other half has just informed me of an interesting BBC news article on the Web 2.0 revolution, check it out.)

I've been a fan of Martin Lewis and his Money Saving Expert Site for a while, but today discovered a board on the forums dedicated to charities and small businesses.  Most of the threads are about business but there are a few for charities, and you can always start your own…
